The 8th ASEAN Maritime Forum (AMF) on 6th Dec 2018 and the 6th Extended ASEAN Maritime Forum (EAMF) on 7th Dec 2018 kicked off with the Track II Academic and Stakeholder Workshop on 4th December 2018 followed by the Track 1.5 AMF Organisational and Functional Workshop on 5th December 2018. The discussions in the first workshop on maritime security was diverse ranging from biodiversity to unmanned vessels. The second workshop focus more on AMF in term of organisation and its function whether it is still relevant as well as its effectiveness in the context of ASEAN. During both workshop MiDAS, Miss Nor Aini binti Mohd Nordin was invited as a speaker to talk about ASEAN Military Ready Group on Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief in the first and moderator in the later. The workshops shed light that there is a need for coordination and more frequent information sharing among the Track II and Track 1.5 members on ASEAN activities and initiatives across sectoral. The outcome of both workshop was brought forth to be discussed at the 8th AMF and 6th EAMF respectively.

The 4th EU-ASEAN Seminar on Security and Defence was held from 26th until 28th November 2018 in Jakarta, Indonesia. The seminar was co-organised by European Union Security and Defence College (EUSDC) and Indonesia Defence University (IDU). This seminar was held to increase existing and explore new opportunity for cooperation through lesson learned and exchange of views on the security challenges faced. Malaysia delegation was represented by Col Mohd Adzhar bin Abd Latiff, Malaysia Ministry of Defence and Miss Nor Aini binti Mohd Nordin, Malaysia Institute of Defence and Security (MiDAS). During this seminar MiDAS was invited as a panellist in the Multinational Response to Security Challenge Session specifically on ASEAN Military Ready Group on Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief and Malaysia involvement in United Nation Peacekeeping Operation. The seminar has helped the ASEAN member state delegations to understand that the EU is interested in exploring opportunity of cooperation especially in the peacekeeping and maritime security operation. The seminar has also helped the EU delegation to better understand that the ASEAN set up and mechanism is not similar to that of the EU. Overall the seminar has been an eye opening and informative sessions for all delegation.

7 November 2018 -  The handing/taking over ceremony of CDSRC-Policy Research Director was held at MiDAS on 07th November 18. The ceremony took place between the outgoing Policy Research Director,Col Nasharuddin bin Mohamad who handed over duty to Col Mohd Akib bin Yusof. The ceremony was attended by MiDAS Chief Executive: Lt Gen Dato' Suhaimi bin Mohd Zuki, Senior Director of CDSRC: Ms Siti Salmiah Binti Hj Dimyati, MiDAS officers and staff.

25th Oct 2018 - A lecture on Nation Building and Strategic Collaboration Initiatives was delivered by Brig Gen Datuk Johnny Lim Eng Seng, the Senior Director of Strategy and Civil Affairs Centre (SCAC) during the New Zealand Defence Force Command and Staff College visit Ministry of Defence, Malaysia. 

29 October 2018 - The handing and taking over ceremony of Senior Director SCAC’s appointment was held at MiDAS on 29th Oct 18. The ceremony took place between the Senior Director of SCAC, Brig Gen Datuk Johnny Lim Eng Seng and new Senior Director of SCAC - Brig Gen Mohd Azmi bin Mohd Yusoff. The ceremony was witnessed by the Chief Executive of MiDAS - Lt Gen Dato’ Suhaimi bin Hj Mohd Zuki. Senior Director of CDSRC - Ms Siti Salmiah Binti Hj Dimyati, MiDAS Officers and Staff also attended the ceremony.

10 Oct 2018 - MiDAS Executive Dialogue Serial 13/2018 titled “Malaysia’s Foreign Policy: Continuity and Change under the Second Mahathir Administration” was successfully organised by the Malaysian Institute of Defence and Security (MiDAS) on 10th Oct 2018 at MiDAS Auditorium, Ministry of Defence, Kuala Lumpur. The presentation was delivered by Prof K.S. Nathan, Institute of Ethnic Studies (KITA) Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. It generated a healthy discussion with participants posing numerous questions that require in-depth and detailed information from the speakers. The program ended with exchange of mementos.

25 Sept 2018 - MiDAS Executive Dialogue Serial 12/2018 titled “Enhancing Regional Cooperation Through Military Involvement In HADR” was successfully organised by the Malaysian Institute of Defence and Security (MiDAS) on 25th Sept 2018 at MiDAS Auditorium, Ministry of Defence, Kuala Lumpur. The presentation was delivered by Associates Professor Benjamin J. Ryan, Daniel k. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (APCSS), Honolulu, Hawai, US. It generated a healthy discussion with participants posing numerous questions that require in-depth and detailed information from the speakers. The program ended with exchange of mementos.

13th Sept 2018 - A roundtable discussion was held in MiDAS during the visit of Dr. S. Vasu Vaitla, The US Head of Counter Violent Extremism (CVE), Bureau of Conflict and Stabilization Operations (CSO) and entourage. During the session, The Chief Executive of MiDAS Lt Gen Dato’ Suhaimi Zuki and staff of MiDAS discussed and exchange views with their US counterparts on addressing the current problems of extremism leading to terrorism. Both sides gave constructive ideas and possible approaches based on previous experiences as well as suggested levels of cooperation in dealing with the threats of violent extremism.
