28th March 2023 -Malaysia is an important partner of the UK. That was the message by Baroness Goldie, Minister of State, Ministry of Defence UK, during the MiDAS Talk 1/2023.
The programme entitled Defence and Security Outlook in the ASEAN Region-United Kingdom's Perspective began with an opening remarks by Mej Gen. Dato' Hj Ya'cob bin Samiran, Choef Executive of MiDAS. The Chief Executive thanked the Baroness for including MiDAS in her pact schedule in Malaysia.
The audience was representatives of various departments, ministries and universities, which include Tuan Mohd Yani bin Daud, Deputy Secretary General (Policy) of MINDEF, Dato' Dr. Shazelina Zainul Abidin, Director-General of Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations (IDFR), Vice Admiral Dato' Zulhelmy Bin Ithnain RMN, President of Puspahanas and His Excellency Charles Hay, British High Commissioner to Malaysia.
Among the topics discussed with the Baronnes were FPDA, the war between Russia and Ukraine, ASEAN and ADMM Plus, AUKUS and humanitarian assistance. It was an enlightening session with the Baroness; MiDAS hope to see her again at the Putrajaya Forum 2024.
