
MiDAS has attended the 20th Track II Network of ASEAN Defence and Security Institution (NADI) Meeting organized by the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS), Nanyang Technological University, Singapore from 4 to 7 October 2024.
The discussion theme for this meeting was "CONFLICTS AFFECTING THE REGION, AND THE ADMM/ADMM-PLUS' ROLE IN CONFLICT PREVENTION AND MANAGEMENT". MiDAS was represented by Maj Gen Haji Ya'cob bin Haji Samiran, the Executive Chairman of MiDAS, Col Dr Samhasri bin Samah, the Director of Regional Affairs, and Lt Col Mohd Sanusi bin Ibrahim, the Director of Administration and Finance of MiDAS, in the meeting.
Ambassador Ong Keng Yong, the Executive Deputy Chairman of RSIS, and Chairman of the NADI Meeting, welcomed the keynote speakers and all the delegates to the NADI Meeting. He emphasized the timeliness of this Meeting, given the increasing strategic competition between the US and China. He reminded the representatives that the outcome of the US Presidential Election will have implications for Southeast Asia and the broader Indo-Pacific region. Ambassador Ong stressed that many hotspots in this region can escalate into more serious conflicts.
Apart from MiDAS, the head delegates from the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies (SHHBIDSS) from Brunei Darussalam, the Center for Strategic Studies, Research and Development (CSSRD) from Indonesia, the Military Science and History Department (MSHD) from Laos, the Office for Strategic Studies and Strategy Management (OSSSM) from the Philippines, the Strategic Studies Center (SSC), National Defence Studies Institute from Thailand, and MiDAS were involved in the presentation sessions. Representatives from the Department of Telecommunications and Department of Policy Planning, GDPFA, Ministry of National Defence Cambodia, the Republic Indonesia Defence University (RIDU) Indonesia, the National Defence University of Malaysia (NDUM) Malaysia, the Office of the Chief of Armed Forces Training (OCAFT) Myanmar, the National Defence College of the Philippines (NDCP) Philippines, the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) Singapore, and the Institute of Defence Strategy (IDS) from Vietnam also made presentations during the second session of the NADI Meeting in Singapore.
