Port Klang, Selangor — The Defence Industry Division (BIP) of the Ministry of Defence Malaysia, in collaboration with the Acquisition, Technology and Logistics Agency (ATLA) of the Ministry of Defense, Japan, successfully organised the Japan-Malaysia Defence Industry Seminar at the Cruise Terminal, Port Klang recently.

This seminar served as a strategic platform to strengthen bilateral relations between Malaysia and Japan in the defence industry sector, while also creating wider opportunities for collaboration between local companies and international industry players.

The event commenced with opening remarks delivered by official representatives from both countries — Mr. Muhammad Yusof bin Derasol, Principal Assistant Secretary, Defence Industry Division, MINDEF Malaysia, and Mr. Fukawa Hideki, Councilor, Defense Equipment Cooperation Division, MINDEF Japan. Both speakers reaffirmed their countries’ commitment to advancing defence industry collaboration through open dialogue, technology exchange, and investment opportunities.

The seminar featured participation from various companies from both Malaysia and Japan involved in the defence and security sectors. Exhibits included defence equipment, computing technologies, software systems, and digital solutions. Each participating company was given the opportunity to present its profile and capabilities on the main stage, fostering potential strategic partnerships and business networking.

Observations from organisers and participants highlighted that BIP’s approach has been highly effective in helping local contractors and manufacturers identify market opportunities, build business networks, and gain access to the latest technologies. The presence of major Japanese corporations such as NEC, Fujitsu, Mitsubishi, Canon, and others further demonstrated Japan’s strong confidence in the growth potential of Malaysia’s defence market.

This seminar not only helped to strengthen strategic ties between the two nations but also acted as a catalyst for the development of the national defence industry — in line with the National Defence and Security Industry Policy (DIPKN). It is hoped that such collaborations will continue and expand in the future to ensure the sustainability of the industry and safeguard the nation’s defence sovereignty.
