
The Malaysia Institute of Defence and Security (MiDAS) proudly participated in the 22nd IISS Shangri-La Dialogue (SLD) 2025, held from 30 May to 1 June at the Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore. This premier Asia-Pacific defence summit brought together over 550 delegates from more than 40 nations, including defence ministers, military leaders, and strategic thinkers.
Representing MiDAS at the high-level dialogue was Chief Executive Lieutenant General Dato’ Seri Haji Muhammad Huzaimi bin Sabri, accompanied by Maj Mohamad Saifirul Azlan bin Ariffin, Assistant Director of Administration and Finance. Their presence aligned with MiDAS’s strategic mission to contribute to regional security dialogues and foster meaningful engagement on emerging defence issues.
Lieutenant General Dato’ Seri Haji Huzaimi’s participation underscored Malaysia’s ongoing commitment to regional peace, multilateral cooperation, and proactive engagement in shaping the Indo-Pacific security landscape. His involvement in various plenary discussions and bilateral meetings further highlighted Malaysia’s role as a constructive voice in international defence diplomacy.
The dialogue featured key sessions on topics such as regional stability, cyber and space security, proliferation risks, and multilateral cooperation. These engagements provided critical insights that will enhance MiDAS’s research priorities and Malaysia’s defence policy formulation.
A highlight of the event was the Special Address by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, reaffirming Malaysia’s stance on sovereignty, non-alignment, and peaceful dispute resolution.
MiDAS’s active involvement in SLD 2025 strengthened Malaysia’s strategic profile and expanded its network with global security institutions. The insights gained from this summit will guide MiDAS’s future contributions to defence discourse, reinforcing its role as a trusted think tank in regional security affairs.
